Common Fault Symptoms:
Abnormal Noise During Steering (mainly related to the outer CV joint)
1:
Symptom: When making U-turns or sharp turns, a regular clicking or popping sound is heard coming from the wheel. The right front wheel makes noise when turning left, and the left front wheel makes noise when turning right. This is a typical symptom of wear in the outer CV joint, where the internal steel balls develop play in the raceway.
Vibration During Straight-Line Driving (mainly related to the inner CV joint):
2:
Symptom: During straight-line acceleration, a noticeable vibration is felt in the vehicle body or steering wheel, but the vibration lessens or disappears when the accelerator is released and the vehicle is coasting. This is usually caused by wear and resulting play in the inner CV joint.
Visible Oil Leak:
3:
Symptom: During chassis inspection, black, greasy lubricant is found splattered all over the inside of the wheel. This is 100% due to a ruptured dust boot. This is the most important early warning sign!
